Lunchbox is officially off to chase one of his lifelong dream of getting on The Price Is Right!
Rhonda from Austin called in to ask the question everyone’s wondering: if he gets called down, will the announcer shout “Come on down, Lunchbox!” or will they use his real name? Lunchbox said he’d love to hear his radio name echo through the studio, but he’s pretty sure the show will go with his legal name. “That’s the price you pay to be on The Price Is Right,” he joked. “If that’s the sacrifice I have to make to win the Showcase Showdown, I’ll do it.”
Lunchbox leaves after the show tomorrow to fly to Los Angeles and plans to attend all three afternoon tapings: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, in hopes of finally getting on stage. But as usual, there are a few details he hasn’t quite figured out. First, travel delays have him nervous. “Everyone’s being delayed hours upon hours,” he said. Bobby even joked that if he really wanted it, he could just drive, all 29 hours from Nashville to L.A. Then there’s the hotel situation. Lunchbox admitted he hasn’t booked one yet because he’s waiting for a last-minute deal. “I thought if I wait till closer, they’d be desperate and the prices would come down,” he reasoned. Bobby quickly advised him that’s not exactly how hotels work.
Despite the chaos, Lunchbox will at least look sharp. He revealed he’ll be wearing a tuxedo from none other than Vera Wang. “Wait… doesn’t she make wedding dresses?” the show asked. Turns out she also makes tuxes, and Lunchbox has one reserved to pick up in Los Angeles. When asked if his wife was going, Lunchbox said no, and for good reason. “This is a me thing,” he explained. “If she got on the show and I didn’t, it would be chaos in our house.”
If Lunchbox does get on the show, the Bobby Bones Show has a secret way to find out before it airs. If Bobby asks, “Have you thought about going anywhere new lately?” and Lunchbox responds, “Papa New Guinea,” that’s the code, it means he made it on stage. But how he says that particular phrase is what happens, we're hoping he says it very loud and excited. Stay tuned.
