The 20th anniversary of 9/11 is this weekend and in honor of that day, The Bobby Bones Show brought on Darryl Worley to talk about his career, share the story behind his song "Have You Forgotten?" and have him perform the special song.
"Have You Forgotten?" is one of those country music songs that fans remember vividly after the 9/11 attacks. Worley had just returned from his first trip performing overseas in Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks. He recalled telling his manager that the whole situation impacted him so much he wanted to do something for it. He went to a write and told his co-writers that he wanted to write a song that would honor all of the people impacted by the terrorist attacks. So they sat down with intentions of writing a song with that in mind, but they didn't plan for the song to soar up the music charts. He wanted a song to perform when he was at events for first responders or overseas with soldiers. "Have You Forgotten?" impacted the country music charts faster than songs usually do. It only took 5 weeks for the song to hit number 1, and then it stayed number 1 for 7 weeks.
Worley has continued his passion for helping the men and women in our military with his latest album 22. He shared the statistic that 22 service members take their own life every day because of the things they've been through and experienced. He believes that as a nation we should be taking care of those men and women as they get back from serving. The album was partially inspired by Charlie Daniels before he passed, telling Worley that "it's up to us" to help them. The song they're promoting off the album right now is called "Send Me" and the whole purpose is to bring awareness to the cause with the proceeds of the album going to various organizations to help men and women in uniform. Worley also has lines of whiskey, bourbon, and moonshine up for sale right now via Leatherwood Distilling with proceeds of each different line going to various organizations to help similar causes as his album.
