Boca Raton, FL - A Boca Raton homeowner was arrested after police say he confronted a teenage boy with a firearm following a neighborhood prank.

According to an arrest report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Santiago Cairo allegedly pointed a gun at a 14-year-old after the teen and his friends played “ding dong ditch” at his home on October 16th.

Authorities say Cairo called 911 believing someone was attempting to break into his residence.

He reportedly armed himself before going outside to confront the teen.

Cairo told officers he never pointed the gun directly at anyone and kept it in a “low ready position” while waiting for police to arrive.

The 14-year-old admitted to ringing Cairo’s doorbell and running away but alleged that Cairo yelled at him, shined a flashlight in his face, and ordered him to get on his knees.

The boy also told investigators Cairo grabbed his shoulder and tried to push him down, causing him to feel threatened.

Detectives determined there was no attempted burglary, and Cairo later told police he may have “gone too far.”

He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm before being released on a $10,000 bond.

Neighbors told investigators their community has recently experienced car break-ins, though none were linked to this incident.

Cairo’s attorney stated his client did not point a firearm or make physical contact with the teen.
