FLORIDA - The latest AP Top 25 college football poll reflects the results of Week 1, highlighting major shifts for Florida State and the University of Florida.
Ohio State retained the No. 1 spot after a 14-7 win over preseason No. 1 Texas, while Penn State stayed at No. 2 following a 46-11 victory over Nevada.
LSU moved to No. 3 after defeating Clemson 17-10, and Georgia claimed No. 4 after a 45-7 win against Marshall.
Florida State, which finished the 2024 season with a 2-10 record, stunned Alabama 31-17 in Week 1.
The Seminoles took the lead in the second quarter and maintained it throughout the game, earning them a jump to No. 14 in the AP Top 25.
Quarterback Jaren Mangham threw for 204 yards and one touchdown, while the defense held Alabama under 20 points for the first time this season.
The University of Florida, meanwhile, started the season with a 38-21 win over Vanderbilt, maintaining a position in the lower half of the Top 25 at No. 19.
Quarterback Marcus Freeman completed 21 of 29 passes for 276 yards with two touchdowns.
The Gators’ rushing attack added 142 yards and a score, balancing a strong offensive showing with solid defensive stops.
Other notable Top 25 movements include Texas dropping to No. 7 after losing to Ohio State, Alabama falling to No. 21 following their loss, and Utah entering at No. 25 after a 43-10 victory over UCLA.
