Miami-Dade & The Keys Have 305, 786, And Now 645

The 3-0-5 and 7-8-6 are about to get some company. That’s because Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys are getting a new area code, “645,” starting Friday

Area customers who request new phone numbers will be assigned “645”. Public Service Commission Chairman Andrew Fay said in a statement that the new code ensures customer demand for new lines is met.

“While minimizing the impact to current customers, the commission must plan for the continuing influx of new residents and businesses to the region — a testament to South Florida’s growing economy,” Fay said in the release.

The commission approved the new area code on Feb. 1.
