BRADENTON -- Manatee County is trying to get snowbirds prepared for hurricane season.
Even though seasonal residents usually clear out of their winter homes well before storms hit, Public Safety Director Jodie Fiske says they still have questions about protecting their properties.
Those include whether they can put up sandbags or storm shutters without code violations, and whether they could face liability over storm damage.
Fiske says many snowbirds watched two hurricanes and a tropical storm batter their properties last year through their doorbell or other security cameras.
Friday's Q-and-A session runs from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Manatee Public Safety Center.
