Brantley Gilbert said “it was a true honor,” to take part in a star-studded tribute to late country legend Toby Keith. The benefit concert, Toby Keith: American Icon, was hosted on Monday (July 29) at Bridgestone Arena in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee, and will air as a two-hour special later this month.
“It was a true honor to celebrate the legacy of the Big Dog Daddy himself, Mr. Toby Keith, on Monday night in Nashville… I hope we did you proud, TK 🇺🇸,” Gilbert wrote in his caption as he shared a photo with HARDY on Instagram on Wednesday evening (July 31). Other artists in the lineup included Trace Adkins, Priscilla Block, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Jordan Davis, Scotty Emerick, Riley Green, Tyler Hubbard, Jamey Johnson, Krystal Keith, Ella Langley, Mac McAnally, Ashley McBryde, Parker McCollum, Jelly Roll, Darius Rucker, Carrie Underwood, Clay Walker and Lainey Wilson. Krystal, one of Keith’s three children, wore her late father’s custom-made hat when she performed “Don’t Let The Old Man In” in his honor.
Keith “passed peacefully…surrounded by his family,” following a battle with stomach cancer earlier this year. He was 62. His loss has since been mourned in heartfelt tributes by the country music community and his family. Keith is survived by his wife, Tricia Lucus, and three children, Krystal, Shelley Covel Rowland and Stelen Keith Covel.
Toby Keith: American Icon will air on NBC on Wednesday, August 28 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.
