A Florida driving instructor has been charged with DUI after he was caught driving with a blood alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit with an open pack of beer in a driver’s ed vehicle.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers arrested Gregory Sorensen after he allegedly drove drunk in New Port Richey in a vehicle with student-driver decals on it and an open pack of Natural Light in the back seat.
Around 11:40 p.m. on Friday, troopers pulled over Sorensen because he was drifting in his lane.
When questioned by the troopers, the teacher slurred his speech, had alcohol on his breath and had bloodshot, watery eyes.
Authorities say Sorenson gave troopers his credit card when they asked for his license.
While fumbling for his license, troopers observed the open 24-pack of beer in the backseat.
After failing a field sobriety test, Sorensen performed two breathalyzer tests, which showed his blood alcohol content to be 0.226 and 0.208, both of which are more than double the legal limit in Florida.
Sorensen was booked into the Pasco County Jail.
