The President of the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association wants a local police chief investigated after he ordered the "unarrest" of an elected official.
John Kazanjian has already made the request through the state attorney's office and...
"Perhaps I might have to call the governor or reach out for the governor's office or the attorney general to get FDLE involved."
He says video shows Riviera Beach City Council member Douglas Lawson battering a woman in a car and in an elevator, but Police Chief Nathan Osgood ordered Captain Rochelet Commond to remove some items from the probable cause affidavit.
The 15-year veteran of the force refused, then filed a whistleblower complaint and was fired for "insubordination."
Kazanjian says Osgood should resign.
"Oh absolutely. Abuse of power right there."
Osgood claims there wasn't enough evidence for an arrest to begin with, but had the case sent to State Attorney Dave Aronberg's office.
The union president says Lawson is scheduled to be honored this weekend at an event called the "Stiletto Awards," which is a domestic violence awareness gala.
"He did not want that councilman getting arrested and him being up on that stage and receiving an award for domestic violence awareness."
The state attorney confirms he is looking into whether charges should be filed against Lawson.
