Treasure Coast Man Charged With Impersonating A Cop In "Traffic Stop"

A Vero Beach man faces charges of impersonating an officer after an incident on Memorial Day.

The Indian River County Sheriff's Office says 19-year old Natron Young turned on flashing lights on his vehicle and pulled over a driver along U.S. 1.

The man behind the wheel says Young walked up to his car wearing a tactical vest, a holster and a gun.

The driver reported the incident to a deputy at a nearby gas station and that led police to Young, with the deputy saying he previously knew the man as someone who was interested in a career in law enforcement.

Officials say the gun that Young was carrying turned out to be a black BB gun that looked like a Glock handgun.

Authorities say drivers are always welcome to call 911 to verify with dispatchers that a patrol car is at their location. They also advise you to pull into a lighted and populated area. Drivers may also ask an officer for their badge number and I.D., which officers are required to provide.
