Legendary singer-songwriter John Prine has died Tuesday (April 7) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville from complications of COVID-19. He was 73-years-old. Prine's family announced that he had been hospitalized since March 26 after the "sudden onset of COVID-19 symptoms."
Prine's wife and manager, Fiona Whelan Prine, received a positive diagnosis on March 18. Prine was tested at the time, but the results were "indeterminate."
Prine was a two-time cancer survivor. He won a battle against squamous cell cancer in 1998 and then beat lung cancer in 2013. Prine had stent surgery in 2019 and was forced to postpone his tour earlier this year after undergoing hip surgery.
