Police Share Tips For Protecting Your Home While You're Out Of Town

If you're heading out of town for Thanksgiving, members of local law enforcement say there are some things you should do to keep your property safe.

Jupiter Police Chief Dan Kerr says don't forget to set your security alarm.

Also..."Get with your neighbors and let them know you're going to be out of town and ask them to keep an eye on your place and pick up your mail for you. Obviously you want somebody you know and trust to do that for you."

He says a little money spent now on lighting may go a long way.

"You probably want to maybe pick up a couple of auto-timers to put your lights on so they come on at different times to indicate that there's somebody home."

He says connecting your outdoor lights to a timer will also help to keep burglars away because they won't be able to sneak up on your home as easily.
