Federal Animal Cruelty Law a Win for Two Florida Congressmen

WASHINGTON -- Monday's presidential signing of a federal law banning animal cruelty is a win for two Florida lawmakers.

Republican Congressman Vern Buchanan of Sarasota and Democrat Ted Deutch of South Florida are two of the co-sponsors of the PACT (Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture) Act.

The law signed by President Trump Monday, outlaws purposefully crushing, burning, drowning, suffocating, impaling or other acts of violence causing serious harm to animals. Persons convicted under the act could face fines and up to seven years in prison.
