Bill Creating Automated Prescription Kiosks In Florida Moves Forward

Floridians could soon be able to get medications through automated dispensing kiosks.

A bill, sponsored by Democrat State Representative Matt Willhite of Wellington, has unanimously passed through a House health care committee.

It would allow pharmacies to set up "automated pharmacy systems" to offer patients access to some prescription drugs in dispensing kiosks outside pharmacies.

The systems would use video teleconferencing to allow patients to speak with a pharmacist about prescriptions.

Willhite says controlled substances would not be available.

A Senate companion bill has been filed in advance of the Legislative Session, which gets underway in January.
