Senator Ted Cruz of Texas floated an interesting proposal on Tuesday. He thinks the billions of dollars in assets linked to convicted drug kingpin El Chapo, which U.S. prosecutors are seeking to seize, should be used to fund the border wall with Mexico.
Cruz tweeted, "U.S. prosecutors are seeking $14 billion in drug profits & other assets from El Chapo which should go towards funding our wall to #SecureTheBorder."
Cruz was alluding to a previously introduced bill known as the "EL CHAPO Act" – or "Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order Act." It was initially introduced in April 2017 and brought back for a second look last month.
