Watch Keith Urban Relive Surprise Moment During CMA Fest

Keith Urban relived his performance with a surprise guest over the weekend at Nissan Stadium in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.

Urban took the stage in front of thousands of country fans and introduced Michael McDonald, “the king of yacht rock,” to perform the sole original track on Urban’s soon-to-release yacht rock album, Flow State. Urban teamed up with Sam Sumser, BRELAND and Sean Spencer Small to write “We Go Back.” He previously shared that he “called in the king of yacht rock to sing on my song,” and “he said yes.”

“The origins of this kind of music was, in certain ways, a reaction and an antidote to the stresses of the times,” Urban said in a previous statement. “Its sole mission (and soul mission) is unchanged…to bring us together and remind us that life is happening NOW- the eternal now- and we have far more in common than not. I hope wherever you hear this album you can feel the exhale, comfort and optimism these songs were originally written by and for.”

Flow State will feature “We Go Back,” plus 10 covers of yacht rock songs and collaborations with Little Big Town and John Mayer. The album will release on Friday (June 12).

Urban shared a clip of his CMA Fest performance with McDonald on Instagram on Monday (June 8). Artists on the main stage this year included Lainey Wilson, Bailey Zimmerman, Blake Shelton, Carly Pearce, Cody Johnson, Deana Carter, Ella Langley, Gretchen Wilson, HARDY, Jason Aldean, Jordan Davis, Luke Bryan, The Red Clay Strays, Riley Green, Russell Dickerson, Shaboozey, Tim McGraw, Tucker Wetmore and Zach Top, and more. Riley Green and Lara Spencer will host the televised special, which will air on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on Thursday, June 25. The show will be available to stream the following day on Hulu.
