Tampa Bay Regional Mayors Call for 'Safe' Super Bowl

TAMPA -- The mayors of the Tampa Bay area's three major cities are joining together to promise a safe and fun Super Bowl experience over the next couple of weeks. .. as they play host to thousands of visitors and media personnel from all over the country leading up to Super Bowl 55.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor says she wants people to have a great time while they're here....and to stay safe...

Castor says public safety will be a top priority....with marine patrol units, bike patrols, mounted patrols, K-9 units....and more...all on duty to ensure a safe environment.

Responding to a question from News Channel 8 reporter Jeff Patterson about unmasked crowds welcoming the Bucs home and threatening to turn the Super Bowl into a Super Spreader event, Castor says the city is doing its part to make sure events are "timed and spaced" but insists it comes down to personal responsibility.

Castor says the only ones she says she wants to see leave disappointed are the Kansas City Chiefs.

Clearwater mayor Frank Hibbard hopes hosting the Super Bowl will help economic development and leave business leaders with an image of the area as a great place to "live, work and play."
