Realizing need is increasing in a community that already battles food security year-round, the Miami Marlins, with its initial investment of $100,000, and Florida Blue, with its $50,000 donation, are launching the Home Plate Meals Relief Fund.
Miami Marlins Foundation Executive Director Rocky Egusquiza says, "We're going to be supporting two drive through food distributions each week in the month of April at two Miami-Dade County Public School locations - one in Liberty City and one in Little Havana."

Those Feeding South Florida drives, which should begin next week, will provide about 200,000 meals.
She says the team will also team up with other organizations like Farm Share to offer additional help.
For gameday staff affected by the coronavirus, the organization has also set aside $1-million.
"We're really all banding together - the team, our leadership, our ownership, our staff - to do our part and help support during these times," says Egusquiza.
