Are you using the internet to assist in your search for a partner? Are you also a genius? Well, Match.com has added a new feature to its dating profiles: a Mensa badge.
Mensa is the world's oldest high-IQ society; you have to test into it, and only the top 2% of smarty-pants people in the world are smart enough to pass their rigorous exam. For example, the average person's IQ is about 100. To be accepted into Mensa, you have to score 131 or above on that test.
Anyway, Match.com is now allowing users who are certified geniuses to advertise their smartness by placing a Mensa logo on the profiles of people who've passed the test.
Some people say this is a pretty pretentious move, and I can understand that. But if you're genius-level smart, chances are, you'll want to be with someone who is also genius-level smart. So I see it as a way of filtering down your search results. How is that any different than saying, "I only date brunettes," or "I don't want to be with someone who isn't in good physical shape." You like what you like, and there's no harm in being honest about it, as long as you're not trying to be hurtful.
What's your take on this?
